CARE ADVICE
GARMENTS
Soiled garments wear out faster — wash regularly to extend the garment’s lifespan. Wool is an exception, as it naturally repels dirt and does not require frequent washing. Instead, air out the wool garment and allow it to rest between uses. Store unused garments in a dry, dark place. A garment with holes should be repaired before use. CE/UKCA-marked protective garments that are damaged no longer offer adequate protection and should be repaired or discarded. Repairs must use the correct materials and methods to ensure maintained protection.

General Advice & Guidelines for Washing and Drying
- Each product comes with specific washing and drying instructions that should be followed. These are adapted to the garment’s material and construction, so exceptions to the general instructions below may apply.
- Wash garments frequently to prevent dirt from setting.
- Wash garments of similar colours together (do not mix light and dark).
- Wash certified garments with others carrying the same certifications.
- Normally, pre-washing is not needed. For heavily soiled garments, pre-washing may be used.
- Even if tumble drying is allowed, Blåkläder recommends air drying or flat drying to extend lifespan and reduce energy use.
- When ironing, avoid areas such as transfer prints and reflective details.
Advice on Detergents
- Do not use soap-based detergents, use synthetic detergents.
- Do not use detergents containing bleach or optical brighteners.
- Follow the dosage instructions on the detergent packaging.
- Use a detergent specifically designed for wool garments when applicable.
Before Washing
- Close zippers, hook-and-loop fasteners, and buttons near zippers before washing. This reduces wear and extends garment life.
- If the garment is heavily soiled, washing it with the outside facing out may help. Some garments benefit from being washed inside out, such as knitwear.
- We recommend treating stains before washing.
SHOES
To achieve the specified protective properties, the correct size and fit are important. Ensure that the sole, seams, and upper are intact before use. Damaged or heavily worn shoes should be discarded. Blåkläder recommends regularly cleaning shoes with a brush, removing stains with a damp cloth, and applying shoe polish to the upper leather. Never clean the shoes with substances like gasoline, acids, or solvents. Store shoes in a dry, well-ventilated space. Never dry damp shoes near heat sources such as stoves, radiators, or drying cabinets. Allow them to dry slowly at room temperature with good ventilation.
GLOVES
A damaged or poorly fitting glove provides less protection, always inspect gloves before use. Do not dry leather gloves in a tumble dryer, on a radiator, or near any heat source, as this will cause the leather to stiffen and crack. Gloves should be stored in a dry, cool place. Please refer to the glove’s labelling and user instructions for correct care.
