HOW TO DRESSAGAINST RAIN

HOW DO I DRESS AGAINST RAIN?

When you’re outdoors in the rain and wind, you sure do want clothing that keeps you dry and warm yet allows you to move freely without getting sweaty and clammy. When the need for protection from wet, wind, and cold is greatest, it is more important than anything else that the rainwear keep what they promise.

Here’s how to dress, or what to think about, when you are going against the rain.

– Choose rainwear based on what profession you have. The more work outdoors in weather-exposed environments, the higher the level of rainwear.

– Remember that your whole body has to be protected from rain and cold. Jacket, trousers, and footwear is the way to go, and no cutting corners.

– All levels of Blåkläder’s collection Rainfighters are perfect for craftsmen, gardeners, highway and construction workers, fishermen, and others who work outdoors.

– All clothes in the Rainfighters collection have a unitary fit and function, but with different lengths of jackets and with or without high vis.

There’s something for all situations and circumstances; from lighter basic garments that perform excellently in harsh conditions to fantastically durable and extremely hard-working rainwear for harsh and extremely harsh conditions.

– Waterproofness is a whole science, and the basics are that the fabric in rainwear normally must have a waterproof rating of 3,000mm (3m) or more.

– The fabric in these garments, jackets or trousers, is laminated with a membrane to make it waterproof and breathable. Explained simply, laminating is the adhesion of a thin plastic film to the fabric.

– There are two main types; one has tiny microscopic pores that let vapour out but are too small to allow water droplets to come in.

– The other type has a material in the lamination film that wicks moisture from inside the garment and transfers it to the outside. This is most suitable for cold climate clothing, as the wicking effect requires the temperature to be colder on the outside of the garment.

THE THREE LEVELS OF RAINFIGHTERS

LEVEL 1 – FOR TOUGH CONDITIONS

LEVEL 1 is basic models in a pliable and lightweight fabric for those with jobs that require a good range of motion and ease in putting on and taking off the garments as needed. The jackets feature smart functions such as a detachable hood, easily accessible pockets, and storm closure to keep out the wetness. They have a two-way zipper that extends all the way up into the collar and a detachable ID pocket on one of the jacket pockets. The trousers have an elastic band and drawstring at the waist. They have adjustable bottom ends and the legs are wide enough for easily putting on and taking off boots/shoes.

LEVEL 2 – FOR TOUGHER CONDITIONS

LEVEL 2 is for those who need to work in more durable garments throughout the working day. The features are enhanced on this level with breathable fabrics and the jackets have a detachable hood as well as neoprene wristlets that retain body heat even when wet. The collars are in fleece on the inside for good comfort and the sleeves are adjustable. The trousers have detachable braces and practical openings for the possibility to hang out the nail pockets. They provide a good fit with an elastic waistband and opening wedges at the leg ends with buttons for easily putting on and taking off the trouser with the boots/shoes on.
