Being pregnant in the construction and crafts industry hasn’t always been easy, at least when it comes to how to dress when the belly starts to grow. But now everything is changing. Blåkläder is permeated by a culture where you always see the opportunity for improvement. The company never ceases to challenge itself and the industry at large – which the maternity trouser is a very striking example of. We dare and want to change the conditions for all pregnant women in the construction and craft industry for the better. Let’s change it!

When Blåkläder at the beginning of 2019 announced that the workwear company with help of pregnant women all over the world would produce the newly arrived maternity trousers, the interest and commitment exceeded all high expectations.

As many as 2,500 pregnant craftswomen applied to become test pilots of Blåkläder’s new maternity trousers. The interest not only proves the need for this type of trousers on the market, but it also shows that the women in the industry are a committed target group that is important for the future.
– A craftsman’s trouser for pregnant women should fit a body in change, which is a solid job when you refuse to compromise with fit and quality. We want to produce a trouser that is really tailor-made for the target group and therefore the feedback we received from the test pilots was invaluable, says Rose-Marie Näsström, product developer at Blåkläder.

Elin Fagerlind works as an electrician and was one of the selected test pilots who tested the maternity trousers. For several years she has followed the issue of workwear for pregnant women in the group ELqvinna on Facebook, where various special solutions on a growing belly were discussed. When the opportunity came to test and evaluate a maternity trouser for the industry, Elin immediately wanted to help. – The more obstacles that are removed for women in the industry, the better, says Elin. I gave concrete suggestions on several updates that Blåkläder carried out on the trousers. It’s fun that they have listened and are doing it for real, she concludes.

From the start, the maternity trousers come in two models, high vis and service. The trousers have a neutral design and are made completely in stretch. The maternity trousers come in five sizes, XS-XL, and each size has an extension feature to also fit women with longer legs. It will be available for purchase in early 2020.
